There are a number of difficulties inherent in comparing military budgets. One is that governments often withhold accurate information about how much they spend on their military. And, second, converting the amount that countries spend into a single currency is difficult given the fluctuations in exchange rates. Since every effort was made to err on the side of caution, the figure above should be understood as a conservative estimate of worldwide military spending.
